I'm wary of allowing the DJI distortion correction to be applied to all future projects because I have read that it's kind of a "quick and dirty" lens distortion correction that could be introducing inaccuracy into the images. I don't want to be forced to buy PIX4Dmapper to effectively counteract a problem (which shouldn't be a problem) that is being created by a DJI oversight. I basically had PIX4D disregard the auto-detected P4RTK camera model and had it import the internal camera parameters from the EXIF data. I downloaded a trial of PIX4Dmapper and was able to tweak some settings to get a half decent result.

They claimed that the setting should be there in the GS Pro app and when we asked them to provide screenshots showing where to find that setting, they stopped replying to our emails.

Our drone retailer who we purchased the drone from has also not been helpful. He has dug into the settings in DJI GS Pro, DJI Pilot, Dronelink, and DJI Fly (Android) and has not been able to find any such distortion correction toggle. I don't have physical access to the drone but I have been on countless phone calls with our pilot trying to figure this out.

In the manual, there is mention of the setting in the GS RTK app, which as I understand only comes pre-loaded on the standard P4RTK controller (with built in Android tablet). My problem is that I cannot, for the life of me, find ANY way to turn off the damn distortion correction. This is all well and good, but PIX4D already does this lens distortion correction, so if you don't disable the distortion correction in the P4RTK you get a lens correction being applied twice, which explains the strange contorted point cloud. After two weeks of playing with camera settings and analyzing metadata, and a dozen different test flights, I think we have determined the culprit.Īpparently the P4RTK has a "distortion correction" feature that intends to correct the fisheye lens effect that appears in images taken by the camera.
